Honoring
Dr. Richard M. Nisman and a Family Legacy of Education
The Degy Impact Scholarship was created to support students pursuing futures in the music and entertainment business – young people who want to shape the industry, not just join it. The scholarship reflects both the mission of Degy Impact and the values of the man whose name it bears.

This award is dedicated to the memory of Dr. Richard M. Nisman – a devoted father, husband, successful doctor and entrepreneur, and a passionate believer in the power of education. Throughout his life, Dr. Nisman supported schools, charities, and community organizations, often leading fundraising efforts and championing educational initiatives that opened doors for others.

One of the most meaningful examples of this commitment was his establishment of the Hilda Lubcher Memorial Lecture at Solomon Schechter Academy, the private Jewish day school attended by his three children, Ari, Sara, and Ben. Created in memory of his mother-in-law, the lecture series brought speakers of international stature to the school community each year, giving students and families direct access to world-class voices, thinkers, and public figures. Speakers included Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, Broadcaster Al Roker, NYC Mayor Ed Koch, Peter Yarrow (of Peter Paul & Mary), Dr. Ruth Westheimer, TV Anchor Tom Brokaw, and many more. Over time, the Hilda Lubcher lecture became a powerful model in the family for how to honor loved ones through education, inspiration, and opportunity.

The Degy Impact Scholarship continues that tradition in Dr. Nisman’s own name. While the specific award criteria, amounts, and selection process are still being developed, the heart of the scholarship is already clear:

-
To financially support students who are serious about careers in music and entertainment,
-
To recognize ambition, creativity, integrity, and leadership, and
-
To encourage recipients to use their talents in ways that positively impact their communities.
